Does it make you feel alive?
That ought to be the sole criterion for judging art.
Does it make you feel alive? Not "empowered." Not "represented." Not "visible."
Alive.
By that criterion most art made after 1950 fails. Miserably.
The Abstract Expressionists were the last Romantics of the modern era. And after them, there are only clever little shits, impotent little snobs who want to impress you with what passes for intellectual acuity but is really a tedious rehashing of sophomoric philosophical conceits.
The funny thing is that for all the talk of "transgression," I doubt there has ever been a moment prior to the last 70 years when art has catered more cravenly to ruling class taste.
Try to find anything institutionally designated as art that compares to this.
